Commenting on projects

Last updated on April 2, 2024

When major projects are proposed, public input into the environmental assessment helps make sure that what is important to the community is considered. Public comments also help identify and assess all potential impacts of a project, so they can be addressed if the project is approved to move forward.

Public comment policies

Comments can be submitted to the EAO either online or by mail. They will be published on the EAO Project Information Centre (EPIC).

The EAO publishes all comments received within seven days of receipt, except comments that do not meet our Public Comment Policy (PDF, 536 kb).

EAO forwards all posted comments to project proponents so that they can be fully considered during the project's EA process.

Participate in the assessment process

Public consultation is an important and mandatory aspect of environmental assessments in British Columbia, based on the principle that those affected by proposed projects should have an opportunity to provide input to the assessment. As part of all environmental assessments, the EAO provides information for the public and seeks input to inform our work of carrying out assessments in a thorough, timely, transparent and impartial way, considering the environmental, economic, social, cultural and health effects of assessed projects.
