B.C. RECOGNIZES CONTRIBUTION OF ABORIGINAL ELDERS

PRINCE RUPERT – An additional $25,000 doubles the Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation’s contribution to the annual First Nations Elders Gathering, Minister Michael de Jong announced.

JOURNEY STRENGTHENS RELATIONSHIPS WITH ABORIGINAL YOUTH

VANCOUVER – The Province is providing a total of $30,000 to the Pulling Together Canoe Society and Ride With The Tides Productions to strengthen relationships between police, Aboriginal youth and communities and to increase awareness about First Nations cultures, Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation Minister Michael de Jong announced.

GOVERNMENT HOUSE TO HONOUR B.C. ABORIGINAL ART

VICTORIA – The Province is providing $100,000 to the First Peoples’ Heritage, Language and Culture Council (the First Peoples’ Council) for talented B.C. Aboriginal artists to create an art display at Government House, Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation Minister Michael de Jong announced.

PROVINCE FUNDS NATIONAL ABORIGINAL DAY FESTIVITIES

VICTORIA – The Province is providing $94,200 to Aboriginal organizations to support National Aboriginal Day celebrations throughout British Columbia, Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation Minister Michael de Jong announced.

This Ministry is leading the way to build new relationships with Aboriginal people, founded on reconciliation, recognition and respect. We negotiate treaties and other agreements to create economic certainty over Crown land and resources, and to improve the lives of Aboriginal people.
