Operational Records Classification Systems (ORCS)
Operational Records Classification Systems (ORCS) are integrated records classification and scheduling systems tailored to the operational records of a specific function or program of government.
Operational records are unique to each government organization and distinct from administrative records which are covered by the government-wide Administrative Records Classification System (ARCS Online).- ORCS tells you how to organize your files within your office
- ORCS helps you retrieve your files
- ORCS tells you how long to keep your files within your office and in storage
- ORCS tells you which files can be destroyed and which must be retained by the government archives
These government standard classification and scheduling systems are mandatory for ministries and agencies covered by the Document Disposal Act. For information on services and support available, please contact your Ministry Records Officer, Corporate Records Officer, or Records Management Operations.
