Accessibility Directorate

Last updated on January 31, 2024

The Accessibility Directorate focuses on improving accessibility for people with disabilities. Located within the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction, the directorate works across government and with the disability and business communities.

Accessibility is important for everyone, especially people with disabilities. It means that all people can take part in their communities through:

  • Work
  • Play
  • Other daily activities

There are more than 926,100 British Columbians over the age of 15 with a disability. As the population ages, the number and severity are likely to increase.

Government has a vision to make B.C. a truly inclusive province for all people with disabilities. We want to remove barriers that prevent equal and meaningful participation in society. British Columbia supports the principles outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). We are strongly committed to advancing and safeguarding those principles within the province.
