MINING WEEK CELEBRATES 150 YEARS OF STRENGTH IN MINING
VICTORIA – After 150 years, British Columbia’s mining industry continues to be strong, according to a major industry report, announced Minister of State for Mining Kevin Krueger during Mining Week, May 11-17.

MINERAL TENURE AND COAL ACTS AMENDMENTS IN FORCE
VICTORIA – Amendments to the Mineral Tenure and Coal Acts will be put in force on June 2, 2008, adding requirements to ensure free miners/mineral developers provide notice to private land owners and Crown land leaseholders before they enter the property to start any type of mining or exploration activity. Industry is being given notice of these changes at this time, so that companies can incorporate the new rules into upcoming exploration plans.

MINE RECLAMATION COMPLETED ON TIME AND UNDER BUDGET
OSOYOOS – The British Columbia government has completed stabilization and reclamation work at the historic Lakeview Dividend Mine on time and under budget, Minister of State for Mining Kevin Krueger announced.

OIL AND GAS LAND RIGHTS SALE FOR APRIL
VICTORIA – The April 23, 2008 sale of oil and gas land rights in northeast British Columbia generated $39.5 million in bonus bids.

GOVERNMENT CONFIRMS POSITION ON URANIUM DEVELOPMENT
VICTORIA – The Province will not support the exploration and development of uranium in British Columbia and is establishing a “no registration reserve” under the Mineral Tenure Act for uranium and thorium, Minister of State for Mining Kevin Krueger announced.
