PROVINCE ANNOUNCES RECORD INVESTMENT IN MINING

Minister Krueger announced that mineral exploration activity in the province surpassed last year’s record and climbed to an all-time high of nearly $416 million in 2007 during the event held at Simon Fraser University’s Department of Earth Science. [News release]

SWAMP POINT AGGREGATE FACILITY OPERATIONAL

Minister of State for Mining Kevin Krueger (at right) scoops a sample of aggregate at the Swamp Point aggregate quarry shortly after the facility became operational in April 2007. Vancouver-based Ascot Resources Ltd. is developing the aggregate quarry and ship-loading facility on the Portland Canal near Stewart, creating jobs and stimulating investment in the economy.

MINING SUCCESS CELEBRATED IN THE NORTH

Minister of Sate for Mining Kevin Krueger highlighted the success of B.C.'s booming mining industry during his keynote address at the Minerals North mining conference on April 19, 2007 in Terrace. The Minister noted that the $148 million in mineral exploration spending in northern regions in 2006 represents more than half of the record-setting $265 million spent across the province last year, which is increasing economic activity and strengthening B.C. communities.

Minister of State for Mining Kevin Krueger (at left) presented $100,000 to Rob Pease, chairman of the Association for Mineral Exploration B.C. (AME BC) to support First Nations participation in B.C.’s booming mining and minerals sector during his keynote address at the Kamloops Exploration Group (KEG) mining conference on April 3, 2007. The funding will be administered through AME BC and will increase B.C. First Nations’ awareness, knowledge and understanding of the mining industry.

KEVIN KRUEGER APPOINTED TO CABINET

Kamloops-North Thompson MLA Kevin Krueger (seated, at right) was sworn into office as Minister of State for Mining on Feb. 7, 2007 by Lieutenant-Governor Iona Campagnolo (seated, at left) in the presence of Premier Gordon Campbell (left) and his wife Debbie. Minister Krueger was formerly Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier responsible for Rural Development and is currently a member of the Government Caucus Committee on Natural Resources and Economy, where he previously served as Chair. He was re-elected as MLA for Kamloops-North Thompson in 2005 after being elected in 1996 and re-elected in 2001.
