BC MINING PLAN: REPORT ON PROGRESS DEMONSTRATES PROGRESS, BENEFITS TO B.C.

The BC Mining Plan: Report on Progress outlines the progress in achieving the goals of the BC Mining Plan, our plan for a successful mineral exploration and mining sector.

B.C. Mining Plan.

It includes a checklist of actions taken to achieve a mining industry that is: thriving;

  • globally competitive;
  • safe; and
  • environmentally responsible.

These actions will create:

  • a strong, sustainable mining industry;
  • more jobs; and
  • benefits to First Nations and communities.

Over 95 per cent of the action items in the BC Mining Plan are completed or in progress. Out of 57 commitments:

  • 29 actions are completed.
  • 26 actions are in progress.
  • 2 actions scheduled to begin in 2007.

Most of these action items fall under four cornerstones:

1. Focus on Communities and First Nations

  • Complete: 7
  • In progress: 2

2. Protecting Workers, Protecting the Environment

  • Complete: 7
  • In progress: 4

3. Global Competitiveness

  • Complete: 11
  • In progress: 8

4. Access to Land

The Report on Progress translates cornerstones into results, and demonstrates success in developing a sustainable, responsible mining sector that will:
