BC PLACE BY THE NUMBERS

  • 1983 – BC Place has been a world-class venue since the raising of its air-supported dome in 1983.
  • 30 years – BC Place will continue to make history with a modern state-of-the-art, sustainable design that will extend the life of the stadium by more than 30 years.
  • 2010/2011 and beyond –The renovation of BC Place, set for completion in 2011, will bring new and exciting business opportunities and expanded revenue beyond the 2010 Winter and Paralympic Games. By going with a new retractable roof after the 2010 Games, rather than before, PavCo has the time needed to plan, budget and secure the best price possible.
  • $58.1 million – The amount of economic impact generated by fiscal year-end of 2007 was $58.1 million.
  • 41 – The stadium is projected to attract an additional 41 event-days per year, including 'higher-margin' events such as large festivals and major concerts that currently bypass the facility.
  • $365 million – Starting in 2009 and continuing until early fiscal year 2011-12, BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo) has been approved for a project envelope of up to $365 million, including contingencies.
  • 3,000 person years of employment – All told, the renovation project will create approximately 3,000 person years of employment.
  • 350 people – The total of number of people who will be working on site.
  • 25 per cent – Upgrading the building and systems for sustainability and green initiatives is expected to decrease the annual BC Place energy bill by an estimated 25 per cent, or approximately $250,000 per year.
  • $100,000 – The new roof will save an additional $100,000 annually in maintenance costs associated with the current air-supported roof.
