LOWER MAINLAND AND VANCOUVER ISLAND FLOOD MITIGATION

As a result of recent heavy rains, many Vancouver Island and Lower Mainland rivers and waterways were at or near flood levels over the last few days. Provincial Regional Operations Centres on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland activated over the weekend and continue to support local governments in responding to localized flooding issues.
- Since 2007, the Province, the federal government and local authorities together have invested more than $85.5 million for 168 flood protection projects in communities throughout British Columbia.
- 44 of these flood protection projects with a total value of nearly $36 million are located on Vancouver Island and in the Lower Mainland. Project details are outlined below.
