Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts

Here are the facts about BC Place Stadium:
- BC Place Stadium is an integral part of Vancouver that generates nearly $60 million in economic activity per year.
- The Stadium is now 25 years old and is in need of refurbishment in order to continue to serve British Columbian’s and maximize economic benefits for the province.
- As a result, the province announced a $365 million renovation of BC Place, set for completion in 2011, that will:
- Revitalize the interior through improved seating and concessions and improve access for the disabled
- Improve building operations and efficiency which will reduce energy consumption by 25%
- Replace the existing air supported roof with a new retractable roof

- The refurbishment will improve the Stadium's efficiency resulting in operating savings of $350,000 annually.
- The addition of a retractable roof will attract an additional 41 major events to Vancouver per year.
- These additional events will increase the annual economic impact of the Stadium from $60 million to $100 million in economic activity, every single year.
FACILITY BENEFITS
- The renovation will extend the life of the stadium by more than 30 years.
- The renovation will improve access and enjoyment for seniors and those with disabilities through new seating areas and the removal of the air locked door system.
- Improved acoustics and interior temperature control will improve customer experience and allow for a wider variety of events to use the facility.
- The refurbishment will attract larger events and create a new home for Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps.
