On April 20, 2006, Minister Abbott announced the province's continuing investment in health research funding. This year the province has provided $70 million to the Michael Smilth Foundation in addition to the $30 million it provided last year. This funding will help maintain B.C.'s position as a world leader in disease and illness prevention.
