On October 16, 2006, Minister Abbott officially opened the new satellite day surgery unit at Surrey Memorial Hospital. "Across the province, thousands of surgeries that would previously have required overnight stays are now performed as day surgeries. This is an example of advances in medical technology which is creating additional capacity and innovations in the way care is delivered," said Minister Abbott.
