Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre: Photographs of the new facility

Premier Gordon Campbell officially opened Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre on Sept. 9, 2008. It is the first new regional hospital to be opened in British Columbia in over 30 years and was completed on-time and on-budget. Below are photographs of the new hospital.

Cancer Centre for the North: Artist rendering

The BC Cancer Agency Centre for the North is one component of the Northern Cancer Control Strategy. The new 4,200-square-metre Centre for the North will provide residents of northern British Columbia with increased access to cancer treatment and diagnostic services closer to home. Construction is targeted to begin in late 2009, with completion in 2012. Below is a rendering of how the new centre may look.

Fort St. John Hospital and Residential Care project: Artist rendering

A new 55-bed hospital, a new services building for centralized food and laundry services, and a new 123-bed residential care facility on the same site. The residential care facility will share services with the hospital to increase operational efficiency. Both facilities will be built on 40 acres that was transferred to Northern Health by the City of Fort St. John. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2009, with completion by 2011. Below is a rendering of how the new hospital may look.

The $432.9-million Kelowna and Vernon Hospitals Project includes a new Patient Care Tower, a new University of B.C. Okanagan clinical academic campus and parkade at Kelowna General Hospital and a new patient care tower at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. Construction started in fall 2008, with completion for the entire project by 2012.

Royal Jubilee Hospital: Artist rendering

Construction on the new, 500-bed Patient Care Centre at the Royal Jubilee Hospital began in summer 2008. The $348.6-million project is expected to be completed by 2010.

Surrey Outpatient Hospital: Artist renderings

Construction on a new 188,000 square-foot outpatient hospital located at the Green Timbers site near Surrey Memorial Hospital began September 2008 and is expected to be completed spring 2011, with a capital value of $239 million. The new outpatient hospital will help to address hospital congestion and the long-term service capacity of the community. Below are artist’s renderings of the new facility.

Surrey Memorial Hospital Critical Care Tower: Artist renderings

A new critical care tower at Surrey Memorial Hospital will increase the number of acute care beds by over 30 per cent and will include a new emergency department almost five times the size of the old ER. The total capital project value is estimated in the range of $500 million to $600 million with construction expected to start in 2010 with completion of the entire project by 2014. Victoria General Hospital emergency department: Artist renderings

Construction of a new $18.8-million emergency department at Victoria General Hospital got underway in 2008 with completion expected by the end of 2009. Below are project renderings of the exterior and interior as well as location of where the new ER will be located in the hospital.

East Kootenay Regional Hospital renovation

A $32-million renovation project at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital was completed in 2007. The project included a new emergency department, upgraded diagnostic imaging department and a state-of-the-art ambulatory care centre for patients who receive treatment on an outpatient basis. Renovations included a new main entrance and lobby, with a waiting room area that allows privacy for incoming patients, a new entrance for ambulances, and a more accessible entryway to the hospital. Below are photographs of the hospital after renovations were completed.
