CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON NEW ROYAL JUBILEE HOSPITAL
On July 30, Premier Gordon Campbell and Minister George Abbott marked the start of construction of a new $350-million, 500-bed Royal Jubilee Hospital. Scheduled for completion by the end of 2010, the new energy-efficient facility will expand bed capacity and provide more comfort and privacy for patients. Over 80 per cent of the rooms will be single-bed patient rooms with large windows that maximize natural light.

FUNDING APPROVED FOR NEW REVELSTOKE AMBULANCE STATION
REVELSTOKE – Health Services Minister George Abbott announced that government is investing $2 million to build a new ambulance station in Revelstoke.

VICTORIA – Health Services Minister George Abbott made the following statement today on the resignation, effective Dec. 31, 2008, of Dr. Simon Sutcliffe, president of the BC Cancer Agency, an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority.

VICTORIA – Results from the most recent independent provincial housekeeping audit show that British Columbia hospitals and long-term care facilities meet the prescribed benchmark for cleanliness. For the second year in a row, all participating health authorities scored above the benchmark rate of 85 per cent in the audits carried out by Westech Systems, Inc.
