MINISTER POLAK AND BC LUNG ASSOCIATION CONGRATULATE QUITNOW CONTEST WINNERS

The BC Lung Association announced winners of the QuitNow and Win contest on February 20, 2009. Minister Polak met grand prize winner Justin Tournier and Vancouver regional winner Janelle Kelly on February 13.

2010 OLYMPIC COMMUNITY TOUR STOPS IN NANAIMO
Minister Polak, Minister Ron Cantelon, MLA for Nanaimo-Parksville and Nanaimo mayor John Ruttan hold an Olympic torch to celebrate the countdown to the 2010 Olympics. Along with Polak, Cantelon and Ruttan, community members, mascots and local athletes joined the celebration on February 14 as part of the 2010 Olympic Community Tour, which stopped in Nanaimo.

Minister Polak, Minister Ron Cantelon, MLA for Nanaimo-Parksville and Nanaimo mayor John Ruttan hold an Olympic torch to celebrate the countdown to the 2010 Olympics. Along with Polak, Cantelon and Ruttan, community members, mascots and local athletes joined the celebration on February 14 as part of the 2010 Olympic Community Tour, which stopped in Nanaimo.

B.C. AND ALBERTA TO DEVELOP OLYMPIC/PARALYMPIC LEGACY
Joan McIntyre, B.C. Minister of State for Intergovernmental Relations (standing) watched as Minister Polak (seated, left) and Alberta Minister of Tourism, Parks and Recreation Cindy Ady signed an agreement Feb. 13 to ensure continuing use of Winter Olympic legacy venues in both provinces. The event was held at Cypress Mountain Resort, the Official Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard Venue for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

MINISTER POLAK PROMOTES DIABETES AWARENESS
The Canadian Diabetes Association hosted the diabetes awareness day event, which was attended by Health Services Minister George Abbott, who was also tested, and Jean Blake, Executive Director at the Canadian Diabetes Association, Pacific.

Minister Polak receives a blood-glucose test to promote diabetes awareness on February 11, 2009 at the B.C. Legislature.
