UNIQUE MOBILE LAB TO UNLOCK B.C.'S BONE-HEALTH SECRETS

August 7, 2009
Minister of Healthy Living and Sport Ida Chong unveiled the Centre for Hip Health and Mobility's mobile research lab, the first mobile lab of its kind in Canada, which is dedicated to better understanding mobility and bone health across the lifespan.

Dr. Heather McKay (second from right) shows Healthy Living and Sport Minister Ida Chong, and MLAs Douglas Horne, Coquitlam-Burke Mountain, and Mary McNeil, Vancouver-False Creek, what the new DEXA scanner, a gold standard clinical instrument, will measure -- proximal femur, lumbar spine bone mass and density. The measurement tool, part of the newly mobile lab project of the Centre for Hip Health and Mobility unveiled August 7 at Vancouver General Hospital, will travel across the Lower Mainland and province to collect information on mobility and bone health.
