B.C. INVESTS $27.4M IN HOUSING FOR HOMELESS IN VICTORIA

OUTSTANDING WARRANTS RESTRICTIONS BEGIN JUNE 1
VICTORIA – Outstanding Warrant restrictions begin June 1, 2010. The restrictions prevent access to income assistance and disability assistance for people with outstanding indictable arrest warrants in B.C. and other provinces, as well as arrest warrants under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada).

COMMUNITY GAMING GRANTS FOR 2010-11
VICTORIA –The Province is allocating $120 million for gaming grants in 2010-2011, up from $113 million last year, to fund approximately 6,000 organizations that benefit communities, including those that assist public safety, youth and disabled sports, people in need, fairs, festivals, museums and community services such as preschools.

PROVINCE PROTECTS SERVICES FOR LOW-INCOME CLIENTS
VICTORIA – The Province is updating income assistance programs to ensure it can manage an increased caseload and provide benefits to as many people as possible.

HOMEOWNER PROTECTION ACT RESPONSIBILITIES TRANSFERRED
VICTORIA – As part of government’s review of Crown corporations, the Province will transfer a number of the key responsibilities under the Homeowner Protection Act effective April 1, 2010.

B.C. EMPLOYMENT AND ASSISTANCE OFFICE CHANGES
SURREY/DELTA – Effective March 15, 2010, the Ministry of Housing and Social Development will be changing service delivery at several of its Employment and Assistance Offices in the Fraser Region.
