Sierra Yoyo Desan Road - Horn River Basin upgrade

Fort Nelson Upgrading the Sierra Yoyo Desan Road will support shale gas development in the Horn River and Cordova Embayment areas. The result will be an upgraded and safer road that will support industry investment and enable a shift in the nature of oil and gas activity in the region, from conventional to shale gas development. Well Water No. 1 - Backup Power Houston The District of Houston will receive $192,104 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program to provide automatic backup power for well water for 75 per cent of local residents, in orderimprove water quality during power outages. $192,104 Spring 2009 Communities
Houston Walking/Biking Circle Network Houston The District of Houston will receive $262,500 in federal and provincial LocalMotion funding for the Houston Walking/Biking Circle Network, which includes construction of approximately three kilometres of paved trail that will connect residential areas with business, recreational and institutional areas within the community. $262,500 Summer 2009 Communities
911 Emergency Services Infrastructure Bulkley-Nechako The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako will receive $375,000 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program. The project will implement a regional 911 emergency response system and will include the installation of repeater equipment, an antenna transmission line, base stations and a tower, along with other infrastructure. The purpose of the project is to remove the 21 different 10-digit numbers to access emergency services and provide 911 access. $375,000 Spring 2009 Communities
Prince George Regional Correctional Centre Upgrades

Prince George An investment of $3.9 million in upgrades to the Prince George Regional Correctional Centre. Includes installation of state-of-the-art security technology to improve staff and public safety. This will include a better video recording system and re-configured common areas to provide better surveillance of inmates. Upgrades will also be made to the facility’s backup power generator. $3.9M Summer 2009 Justice
South Hazelton’s Water System Upgrade South Hazelton Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine will receive $1.1 million to improve South Hazelton’s drinking water treatment process. The funds will allow the Kitimat-Stikine Regional District to provide UV water disinfection and improve fire protection. $1.1M Planning underway Communities
South Trunk Storm Sewer Project Smithers Town of Smithers will receive $1.6 million to improve the existing storm water collection system. The project will improve drainage capacity along Highway 16 as well as for an additional planned 350 single family residential lots. Installation of approximately 1.8 kilometres of storm sewer main will help improve groundwater recharge and protect the Buckley River. $1.6M Planning underway Communities
4th Street Improvement Program Vanderhoof Vanderhoof will receive $3.5 million in joint federal and provincial funding
to upgrade 4th Street, between Nechako Avenue and Highway 16. The street will be reconstructed to improve mobility for vehicle traffic. The addition of sidewalks along 4th Street will increase pedestrian safety and encourage alternate modes of transportation. In addition, underlying services will be improved to enhance community infrastructure.

Water Main Replacement Port Edward District of Port Edward will receive $1 million to replace aging and failing water mains that have been subject to soil corrosion, causing leaks and a risk of water contamination. Iron water mains will be replaced. Fire hydrants, new gate valves and service connections will also be reconnected in the first phase of the project. $1.0M Planning underway Communities
Hays Creek Sewer Relocation Prince Rupert City of Prince Rupert will receive $2.6 million to decommission, replace and relocate the Hays Creek sewer trunk, which is above ground and past its life expectancy, making it susceptible to failures. This new sewer and pump station design will eliminate pipe failures, thus protecting fish habitat and increasing the safety, efficiency and reliability of wastewater treatment in the community. $2.6M Planning underway Communities
Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades Fort St. John City of Fort St. John will receive $1.7 million for upgrades to the Fort St. John South Lagoon wastewater treatment plant, which will result in increased system efficiency and improved effluent quality. $1.7M Planning underway Communities
Local Road Paving Program Taylor District of Taylor will receive $2.3 million to pave local roads. This project will see a number of local gravel roads upgraded to basic paved municipal standards, with asphalt surfaces and sidewalks. $2.3M Planning underway Communities
Lagoon Berm Stabilization Pouce Coupe Village of Pouce Coupe will receive $175,000 to reinforce a section of the town’s sewage treatment lagoon. The project will involve clearing and grubbing the proposed site, placing structural components including geotextile cloth, rock and gravel, and monitoring the slope for erosion. $175,000 Planning underway Communities
Eco-Sensitive Waste Water Treatment Village of McBride Village of McBride will receive $1 million for the first phase of a project that includes the construction of a wetland and effluent-irrigated community woodlot to improve wastewater treatment. This phase will increase sewage treatment capacity and reduce wastewater flows to the Fraser River by providing a second sewage lagoon and new sewer mains. $1.0M Planning underway Communities
Skeena Industrial Development Park City of Terrace The City of Terrace will receive $1.3 million for the Skeena Industrial Development Park – Intersection and Access Road project. The project involves the construction of an intersection, 700 metres of access road and will feature bike/pedestrian lanes. $1.3M Planning underway Communities

Fraser Lake Fraser Lake is receiving $352,732 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program to upgrade the Fraser Lake arena. The facility will be upgraded to include a curling rink, ice arena, and a community hall. $352,732 Spring 2009 Communities

Fort St. James The District of Fort St. James is receiving $400,000 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program to help build an energy efficient community hall/convention facility adjacent to the arena. This project will link the Fort St James Community Hall to the arena and improve the ability of the town to host events such as hockey tournaments. $400,000 Summer 2009 Communities
New Beaverly Fire Rescue Facility Beaverly - Fraser Fort George Regional District The Fraser-Fort George Regional District will receive $400,000 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program for the construction of the Beaverly Fire Rescue Hall, an energy-efficient building that will be able to house up to eight emergency vehicles and administration. The new building will provide a home for the Beaverly Volunteer Fire and Rescue and the Chilako River–Nechako Highway Rescue. $400,000 Spring 2009 Communities
Audible Signal Retrofit Prince George The City of Prince George will receive $113,788 in federal and provincial LocalMotion funding to continue the audible signal retrofit program that installs audible signals at crosswalks to help the visually-impaired. $113,788 Spring 2009 Communities
Water Metering and Conservation Project McBride The Village of McBride will receive $300,000 in federal and provincial funding through the Towns for Tomorrow program to help to install water meters and reduce water consumption. The project will involve the installation of water meters at about 25 high water-use locations as well as at all commercial connections within the village. In conjunction with a water conservation plan and community education program, it is expected demand on the water supply, and the sewage treatment plant, will be reduced. $300,000 Spring 2009 Communities
Frank Street Well Emergency Generator Terrace The City of Terrace is receiving $335,573 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program for the Frank Street Well Emergency Generator project, which will improve drinking water safety and reliability for 11,000 residents during power outages. $335,573 Spring 2009 Communities
Grand Trunk Pathway Terrace The City of Terrace is receiving $94,225 in federal and provincial funding from the LocalMotion program for the Grand Trunk Pathway: Downtown Gateway Project, which will enhance community and recreation pathways between Eby and Sande Streets. $94,225 Spring 2009 Communities
Sewer, Street and Sidewalk Renewal Hazelton The Village of Hazelton is receiving $400,000 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program for Storm Sewer, Street and Sidewalk Renewal on Omineca, River and Government Streets. Thornhill Water System Woodlands Integration Kitimat-Stikine Regional District The Kitimat-Stikine Regional District is receiving $400,000 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program for the Thornhill Water System Woodlands Integration Project, which will improve fire safety and provide clean, clear water for Woodlands residents. $400,000 Spring 2009 Communities
Riverside Campground and Ranger Park Trail Improvement Smithers The Town of Smithers will receive $375,000 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program for the Riverside Campground and Ranger Park Trail Improvement project. $375,000 Spring 2009 Communities
Toronto Street to Queen Street Perimeter Trail Connector Smithers The Town of Smithers will receive $36,000 in federal and provincial funding from the LocalMotion program for the Toronto Street to Queen Street Perimeter Trail Connector project. $36,000 Spring 2009 Communities
Highway 16 Watermain Replacement  -Phase 1 Village of Telkwa The Village of Telkwa will receive $400,000 federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program to replace water mains along Highway 16, improving water quality for the entire community. $400,000 Spring 2009 Communities
Ice Arena Energy Efficiency Retrofit

Vanderhoof The District of Vanderhoof will receive $320,000 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program to conduct an energy-efficiency retrofit at the ice arena. The includes installing a freon ice plant package and a heat reclamation unit for Zamboni water at the local arena. It is expected this project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20 per cent, or 18.5 tonnes per year. It is also expected to save one million gallons of water per year. $320,000 Spring 2009 Communities
Walkway Rejuvenation Kitimat Kitimat will receive $375,000 in federal and provincial Towns for Tomorrow funding for the Walkway Rejuvenation Project to improve access for those with disabilities and promote healthy lifestyles. $375,000 Summer 2009 Towns for Tomorrow

Courthouse and Regional Correctional Centre Enhancements  
Prince George Government will invest more than $2.5 million to enhance the Prince George courthouse and regional correctional centre. The enhanced courtroom will give the judiciary and courthouse staff the resources to conduct high security trials locally, while a new secure interview/hearing room and install an additional videoconference unit at Prince George Regional Correctional Centre. $2.5M Planning underway Justice
Highway Improvements Prince George More than $64 million for highway improvements will be invested in the Prince George area. This includes $9.5 million to improve safety at the intersection of Highway 16 and Domano/Tyner Boulevards. Another $40 million will be spent to realign and widen Highway 97 through the Pine Pass between Bennett Creek and Link Creek, and build two new bridges over the Pine River. $64M Planning underway Transportation

Northwest Drive Path Masset Masset will receive $39,179 in federal and provincial Towns for Tomorrow funding for the Northwest Drive Path project which will create a new 350-metre cycling/walking path between residential areas and the new Northern Haida Gwaii Hospital and Health Centre. $39,179 Spring 2009 Communities
Sewage Treatment Facility Upgrade Port Clements Port Clements will receive $98,742 in federal and provincial Towns for Tomorrow funding for the Sewage Treatment Facility Upgrade project, which will improve the aging facility and improve reliability of sewage treatment during power outages for 500 residents. $98,742 Summer 2009 Communities
Sandspit Community Hall Upgrades Sandspit Sandspit will receive $400,000 in federal and provincial Towns for Tomorrow funding to repair and upgrade the community hall in Sandspit, including energy efficiency upgrades, installing rainwater recapture for non-potable water use such as flushing toilets, the installation of passive solar panels for water heating and redesign of the hall’s interior. $400,000 Summer 2009  
Water Main Replacement Port Edward District of Port Edward will receive $400,000 in federal and provincial Towns for Tomorrow funding to continue replacing water mains. The replacements will focus on water mains that are 35 to 50-years old, and will help the community conserve water resources. $400,000 Spring 2009 Communities

Highway 77 Improvements Fort Nelson Peace River will receive $6 million in joint federal and provincial funding to sealcoat Highway 77 from Deasum Creek to the Northwest Territory border. Crews will be carrying out base strengthening and upgrading of the road structure, bringing it to 100 per cent carrying capacity, with a new hard surface over 25 km. $6M Summer 2009 Transportation
Highway 97 Expansion Quesnel Quesnel will receive $10 million in joint federal and provincial funding to four-lane Highway 97 from Cody Road to Australian. The project will improve traffic flow and safety by providing safe passing opportunities over a 2.5-km section of four lanes. $10M Spring 2010 Transportation
Stone Creek Bridge Replacement Prince George Prince George will receive $28 million in joint federal and provincial funding to replace Stone Creek Bridge on Highway 97 with a new, four-lane bridge. $28M Fall 2009 Transportation
Raw Water Supply Energy Efficiency Project Fort Nelson Fort Nelson will receive $400,000 in federal and provincial Towns for Tomorrow funding for upgrades to its Raw Water Supply Energy Efficiency Project. Fort Nelson Community Trail Master Plan Project Fort Nelson Fort Nelson will receive $602,676 in federal and provincial LocalMotion funding for the first phase of the Fort Nelson Community Trail Master Plan Project. Local Highway Improvements

Lungul Reservoir Upgrades

Dawson Creek Dawson Creek will receive $341,340 in federal and provincial Towns for Tomorrow funding for upgrades to the Lungul Reservoir - Emergency Pumping Station. Community Trail

Fort. St. John Fort St. John receives $494,863 in federal and provincial funding from the LocalMotion program to construct a one kilometre long community trail along 100th Street. Pouce Coupe Fire Hall Pouce Coupe Pouce Coupe will receive $400,000 in federal and provincial Towns for Tomorrow for the Pouce Coupe Fire Hall project. Legacy Housing Project Chetwynd Chetwynd will receive $400,000 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program for the Legacy Housing project.
