Overview
Since February, we’ve announced 401 projects totalling over $2.8 billion dollars in capital and accelerated infrastructure for projects across the province, creating over 18,100 direct jobs.
Announcements are part of the overall $14 Billion capital infrastructure program and include both infrastructure investments within the approved capital plan, accelerated infrastructure projects and local government infrastructure grants.
For the justice sector:
We’ve announced more than $45M in justice related projects in communities including Victoria, Nanaimo, Prince George, Maple Ridge and Kamloops, generating over 285 direct jobs.
These upgrades include high-security courtrooms, and improved security systems that will deliver greater safety for courthouse staff, visitors and those in the justice system.
For the social housing sector:
We’ve announced more than $396M in social housing projects in Victoria, Vancouver, Abbotsford, Maple Ridge, Surrey and Kelowna generating over 2,500 direct jobs.
This includes housing for seniors and persons with disabilities across the province worth $123M, of which $62M is cost-shared with the Federal Government.
For education:
We’ve announced $405M for new and upgraded schools around the province generating over 2,600 direct jobs.
For example, $167M is being invested in seven Vancouver school projects focusing on seismic upgrades, school replacements and the construction of new schools where needed.
For communities:
To date, we’ve announced $277M for projects in over 180 communities across B.C., creating almost 1,750 jobs. All these funds are being invested in local projects that the community itself has chosen. Towns for Tomorrow projects include upgraded arenas and roads, community parks and water metering projects. LocalMotion projects are building trails that will link important facilities and encourage walking and biking.
Of the total, $108M is cost-shared with the Federal Government.
For transportation:
To date, we’ve announced more than $1.1 billion for transportation projects for improvements throughout British Columbia including the Pritchard to Hoffman's Bluff project, outside of Kamloops, the Sierra Yoyo Desan Road upgrade to access the Horn River Basin near Fort Nelson and the SkyTrain and West Coast Express enhancements for the lower mainland. It is expected these projects will generate almost 7,050 direct jobs across B.C.
Of this total, over $335 M is cost-shared with the Federal Government.
For post-secondary education:
We’ve announced $530 M in projects for 29 post-secondary institutions across the province including the University of British Columbia, Thompson Rivers University and College of the Rockies, creating almost 3,400 jobs.
Of the total amount, $202M is cost-shared with the Federal Government.
For health:
We’ve announced more than $83M in accelerated projects generating over 520 direct jobs for health facilities such as Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, Kootenay Lake Hospital and Richmond Hospital.
