Bamfield Water System Upgrades Bamfield Through the Towns for Tomorrow program, the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District is receiving federal and provincial funding for the Bamfield Water System Upgrades project. This project will see the replacement of two 30-year-old energy-inefficient pumps, and the installation of a chlorine residual monitor and backup generator. The project will serve approximately 300 winter residents and up to 1,500 people in summer. $160,000 Spring 2009 Communities
Wild Pacific Trail Expansion Ucluelet Through the Towns for Tomorrow program, the District of Ucluelet is receiving federal and provincial funding to improve the Wild Pacific Trail. The $76,000 project will see the construction of a wilderness hiking trail to be added on to the Wild Pacific Trail. Transit and Pedestrian Amenities Comox The Town of Comox will receive $375,000 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program for the Comox Pedestrian safety/transit project to provide transit and pedestrian amenities, including bus shelters, solar-powered pedestrian beacons and three sidewalks near the downtown core. $375,000 Spring 2009 Communities
Guthrie Road Bike Lanes Comox The Town of Comox will receive $49,350 in federal and provincial funding from the LocalMotion program towards the installation of about 4.2 kilometres of bike lanes on both sides of Guthrie Road. $49,350 Planning underway Communities
Aggie Multi-Use Field Enhancement Project

Ladysmith Ladysmith will receive $375,000 in federal and provincial funding for the Aggie Multi-Use Field Enhancement project to replace the existing grass-surfaced, single-use baseball field with a multipurpose, artificial-turf field. The improvement will encourage physical activity by allowing year round use for soccer as well as baseball. Cumberland Lagoon Upgrading Cumberland The Village of Cumberland will receive $400,000 in federal and provincial funding through the Towns for Tomorrow program for the Cumberland Lagoon Upgrading project, to install an additional surface aerator for treatment efficiency, a curtain wall for settled solids, and a mechanically-cleaned screen to reduce aerator failures. $400,000 Spring 2009 Communities
Denman Island Water Quality Improvement Denman Island - Comox Valley Regional District The Denman Island will receive $377,600 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program to provide safe drinking water to a small community on Denman Island which has lived with a boil-water advisory for several years. The project will include installation of approximately 1,450 metres of water main, installation of associated fire hydrants, and decommissioning of local service area wells. $377,600 Spring 2009 Communities

Victoria The Province is providing $27.4 million for two new supportive housing developments in Victoria. The development at 525 Ellice Street will provide 83 shelter beds, 20 extreme weather response beds, 23 transitional housing units and two emergency family shelter units. The development at 950 Humboldt Street will provide about 43 housing units for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. $27.4M Spring 2009 Housing
Arena Refrigeration Plant Upgrade

Gold River TThe Village of Gold River will receive $360,000 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program for the arena refrigeration plant upgrade, including repairs and energy efficient retrofits. It is expected that installing a new refrigeration and heat-exchange system will reduce greenhouse gases and generate jobs, while providing the community with opportunities for winter physical activity. $360,000 Summer 2009 Communities
Wright Road - Water Distribution Upgrade Parksville Parksville will receive $105,000 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program to upgrade the old waterline on Wright Road and complete a network loop to Temple Street. The work will include replacing the existing water main and fittings on Wright Road and installing a new water main and associated fittings to connect on Temple Street. The new waterlines will improve drinking water quality and fire service in the area and extend the useful life of the infrastructure. $105,000 Summer 2009 Communities
Alpine View Road Re-Construction

Tahsis The Village of Tahsis will receive $400,000 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program for the reconstruction of approximately 150 metres of Alpine View Road. Upgrades to road works and waterworks will increase levels of safety, improve walkability and encourage physical activity. $400,000 Summer 2009 Communities
Drinking Water and Watershed Protection Monitoring Regional District of Nanaimo The Regional District of Naniamo will receive $221,625 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program for a Drinking Water and Watershed Protection monitoring program. It will result in the construction of approximately 10 groundwater observation wells and data loggers in 15 additional wells. $221,625 Summer 2009 Communities
South Fork Water Treatment Plant Nanaimo City of Nanaimo will receive $17.8 million to improve the quality of local drinking water. This investment will fund the construction of a new drinking water treatment plant on Nanaimo Lakes Road that will include ultra-violet disinfection and filtration processes. The plant will provide clean drinking water to the City of Nanaimo, South West Extension, and the Snuneymuxw First Nation. $17.8M Planning underway Communities
Meadow Drive Community Park Development

Regional District of Nanaimo The Regional District of Nanaimo will receive $36,991 in federal and provincial funding from the LocalMotion program for the Meadow Drive Community Park Development project, to construct a park in the community of East Wellington/Pleasant Valley, including an accessible playground, playfield, fitness activity stations and walking trails, providing opportunities for all residents to participate in physical and recreational activities. $36,991 Spring 2009 Communities
Penfield West Linear Park & Pedestrian Controlled Crossings Campbell River Campbell River will receive $330,284 in federal and provincial funding from the LocalMotion program for two projects. Of the total, $274,284 will go towards the Penfield West Linear Park project that will connect to shopping, residential and existing greenway networks and will include a paved trail, children's playground and a dog park.

Another $56,000 will go towards the installation of about 10 pedestrian controlled crossings along Highway 19A between Hilchey Road and 1st Avenue.

Local Road Upgrades Alert Bay Alert Bay will receive $290,000 for road upgrades. Approximately 1.3 kilometres of local roads in Alert Bay will be rehabilitated, improving safety and access for residents and visitors. $290,000 Planning underway Communities
East Saanich Road Renewal

Saanich The Capital Regional District will receive $4.6 million to upgrade a portion of East Saanich Road. Almost three kilometres of East Saanich Road, from Mount Newton Cross Road to Island View Road, will be repaved. Bike lanes and sidewalks will be added from Cultra Avenue to Prosser Road.

Magic Lake Estates Water System Upgrades

North Pender Island Capital Regional District will receive $5.25 million for North Pender Island Magic Estates Water System Upgrade. The funding will allow for the de-commissioning of the two existing plants and construct one new plant to service the entire area. Improvements will be made at the wastewater treatment plant to accommodate waste from the new drinking water treatment plant. $5.25M Planning underway Communities
Moilliet Street Upgrade Parksville City of Parksville will receive $1.7 million to upgrade Moilliet Street in the city's downtown core. Approximately 900 metres of Moilliet Street will be upgraded. China Creek Water Main Replacement Phase 2 Port Alberni City of Port Alberni will receive $1.1 million to replace and improve the efficiency and reliability of the China Creek water main. The project will improve 3.2 km of critical water supply infrastructure, increase operator safety and reduce water loss. $1.1M Planning underway Communities
Rehabilitation of Roads Port Hardy District of Port Hardy will receive $1.5 million to improve over five kilometres of local roads. Douglas Street, Byng Road and Park Drive will be upgraded to improve safety for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. $1.5M Planning underway Communities

Fifth Street Sewer Lift Station Decommissioning

Sidney Town of Sidney will receive $177,000 to upgrade the wastewater system. The project work includes the installation of a new sanitary sewer, pump station works, restoration works and utility crossings. $177,000 Planning underway Communities
Northern Area D Sewerage Project - Phase 1 Strathcona Regional District of Strathcona will receive $3.4 million to extend the sewer collection system. Funding will make possible installation of two pump stations, more than 4,000 metres of gravity main, and 177 metres of force main to the sewer system. $3.4M Planning underway Communities
Domestic Water Metering Lake Cowichan Lake Cowichan will receive $400,000 in federal and provincial funding for the Domestic Water Metering Stage 1 project, to ensure that the town's water system is managed sustainably for residents, supporting strategies identified in British Columbia's Living Water Smart Plan. $400,000 Summer 2009 Communities

Port Renfrew Fire and Community Centre

Port Renfrew (Capital Regional District) The Capital Regional District will receive $400,000 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program for the Port Renfrew fire and community centre energy refit and construction project. The project involves a joint ground source heat pump and standby power system that will service both the fire hall and community centre. Craig Street Downtown Revitalization Duncan The City of Duncan will receive $400,000 in federal and provincial Towns for Tomorrow funding for the Craig Street downtown revitalization project to upgrade one of the city's core streets and create a more liveable, vibrant and sustainable downtown. Work will consist of removing the existing roadway and restoring the pavement, reducing a two-lane road to one-lane, construction of a new drainage system plus curb and sidewalk replacement. $400,000 Spring 2009 Communities
Centennial Park Duncan The City of Duncan will receive $275,442 in federal and provincial LocalMotion funding for the Centennial Park project, revitalizing the park's amenities including a proposed water play park, new playground and pedestrian trail linkages. Lynn Road & Osprey Lane Roundabout - Chesterman's Beach Tofino A $244,800 investment will be made through the Towns for Tomorrow program for a 20-metre roundabout at Lynn Road and Osprey Lane, an intersection used extensively to access Chesterman's Beach, one of the most popular beaches in the district. Funding will also contribute to parking lot improvements and construction of a pedestrian crosswalk in the same area, thereby providing safer access to the beach. $244,800 Spring 2009 Communities
