VICTORIA – Minister Iain Black addressed an audience of international experts at the opening of the 10th Annual Privacy and Security Conference, held February 3, 2009 at the Victoria Conference Centre. The conference examined trends and current issues in the privacy and security arenas and included discussions among some of Canada's privacy commissioners.

LANGLEY (Oct. 22) – Labour and Citizens’ Services Minister Iain Black speaks to the audience at NAOSH Week award ceremony. NAOSH (North American Occupational Safety and Health) is a program that dedicates a week to focus on efforts to ensure that workers arrive home safe every day. During the ceremony, 22 companies and individuals in B.C. were acknowledged for outstanding performance in workplace health and safety.

Among the public sector projects honoured from the past year: Revenue Management Project, Ministry of Small Business and Revenue; Server Consolidation and Virtualization Project, Ministry of Labour and Citizens’ Services; WorkSafe Mobility Project, WorkSafeBC; WelcomeBC.ca, Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development.

Minister Iain Black addressed an audience Sept. 18 in Langley gathered to recognize the new Trucking Safety Council. A joint program of the B.C.
Trucking Association and WorkSafeBC, the council will address the safety needs of the sector, including evaluating the risks and developing practical prevention and mitigation programs.

The Province has provided $350,000 in grants to launch an international cybercrime research centre at Simon Fraser University. Among its activities, the centre will host research to help safeguard the province’s public sector computer network against criminal misuse.
