It should come as no surprise to anyone that the province is facing significant budget pressures not unlike the rest of Canada and indeed the world.

CHILDREN AND FAMILIES ARE ENTITLED TO PROTECTION OF PRIVACY - TIMES COLONIST

Each and every day social workers in this province make judgement calls that most of us cannot imagine and which most of us would not want to be in a position to make. Social workers respond to about 30,000 child protection-related calls each year. They assess each and every call, often resulting in an investigation, with the prime motivation to keep children safe. Obviously when judgement calls are being made on a daily basis, there are going to be isolated cases in which questions will be raised about those decisions.
