PROVINCE SUPPORTS PALLIATIVE CARE FOR B.C. KIDS
Alongside Minister Mary Polak were Colin Hansen, Minister of Finance, Deputy Premier, MLA for Vancouver-Quilchena and Filomena Nalewajak, CEO, Canuck Place Children's Hospice.

Minister of Children and Family Development Mary Polak announces a $2.63-million Provincial grant to Canuck Place Children's Hospice to support palliative care for children.

On October 29, 2009, the rights and entitlements of Foster Parents were clarified and enshrined in a document signed by the Minister of Children and Family Development and the B.C. Federation of Foster Parent Associations (BCFFPA).

'PURPLE' SHAKEN BABY TRAINING EXPANDS TO FOSTER PARENTS
Purple' Shaken Baby Training Expands Foster Parents

Minister Mary Polak was joined by members of Prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome BC at the BC Children's Hospital to announce that the Period of PURPLE Crying® program – a shaken baby syndrome prevention tool – is being expanded to foster parents throughout the province.

Minister Mary Polak met with Bev Batchelor,  a foster parent in B.C. for 30 years and Jordan Batchelor, who was fostered by Bev's family when he was a newborn and then adopted by them when he was a teenager.  Joining them was Dave Calder, who is also a foster parent and a silver medalist in rowing from the Beijing Olympics.
