UNIQUE MOBILE LAB TO UNLOCK B.C.'S BONE-HEALTH SECRETS

Minister of Healthy Living and Sport Ida Chong unveiled the Centre for Hip Health and Mobility's mobile research lab, the first mobile lab of its kind in Canada, which is dedicated to better understanding mobility and bone health across the lifespan.

The Minister for Healthy Living and Sport, Ida Chong, offers up an arm in the name of science. Here she learns more about pQCT scanner from Dr. Heather McKay, director, Centre for Hip Health and Mobility. The pQCT scanner, part of the new Centre for Hip Health and Mobility’s mobile research lab, will measure cortical and trabecular bone, geometry, structure, and strength. The mobile lab, launched Friday at Vancouver General Hospital, will study the bone health of study participants who live across B.C. The mobile lab was unveiled August 7 at Vancouver General Hospital.

The mobile lab's tour was launched in Vancouver at Vancouver General Hospital in August 2009 and will travel across the province, reaching previously unstudied populations of seniors and youth. The information collected will identify trends in bone health and mobility across the lifespan.
