B.C. WOOD FEATURED IN EXPANDED CONVENTION CENTRE

November 5, 2008
Premier Gordon Campbell, along with Tourism, Culture and the Arts Minister Bill Bennett toured a Victoria company that is using an innovative robotic woodworking process to build the unique interior of the new Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Joining the Premier and Minister Bennett were The Honourable Ida Chong, Minister of Technology, Trade and Economic Development and MLA for Oak Bay-Gordon Head, the Honourable Murray Coell, Minister of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development - and MLA for Saanich North and the Islands, and the Honourable Pat Bell, Minister of Forests and Range - and MLA for Prince George North, and Warren Buckley, CEO of Pavco.

Workers at Morinwood show Premier Campbell the unique design of the millwork – there's more involved than just making 'wood panelling'. The Province wanted to make sure BC wood was a major component in the construction of the VCEC expansion.

The expanded facility also features a restored marine habitat underneath the building, built into the foundation. The project won the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC Award for Innovative Marine Habitat Design in 2006.
