Bridging Employment Programs (BEP)

Overview

Effective: December 01, 2003

The Bridging Employment Program (BEP) assists survivors of violence and abuse to overcome employment barriers that prevent them from making successful transitions to sustainable employment.

Skill building and support to help improve opportunities for sustained employment are the focus of BEP’s three components:

  • Community Bridging – for women who are in receipt of income assistance, are not participating in any other ministry-funded program, and have experienced violence or abuse.

  • Special Bridging – for women who meet the criteria described above for Community Bridging and who face additional barriers to employment due to language, immigration, or culture. Provides specific language or cultural training related to a designated group that may include aboriginal women or immigrant women.

  • Former Sex Trade Participants – for former sex-trade workers (men or women) who are in receipt of BC Employment and Assistance or funding assistance provided under youth agreements with the Ministry for Children and Family Development, are not participating in any other ministry-funded program, and have experienced violence or abuse.

The Employment Initiatives Branch of the Employment Division, in conjunction with Regional Services Division, jointly manage BEP contracts. The contracts are performance based and payments are issued to Service Providers when recipients achieve specified terms of independence from income assistance.
