Non-Ministry Funded Employment Programs and Services

Overview: July 28, 2008

Effective: July 28, 2008

Several non-ministry funded employment programs and services may be available to clients eligible for BC Employment and Assistance.  This topic summarizes major programs and services currently offered through federal and provincial government partners.

The federal government, through the Department of Human Resources and Social Development Canada, provides employment programs and services to unemployed individuals, including BC Employment and Assistance clients, through the Labour Market Development Agreement with the province.  The federal government also provides programs under the Aboriginal Human Resources Development Agreement, the Opportunities Fund, and the Youth Employment Strategy.

The provincial government partners with other stakeholders to provide the BladeRunners program for youth and apprenticeship training through the Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development.
