Definitions
HAB - Health Assistance Branch

Child
An unmarried person under 19 years of age.

Dependent child
With respect to a parent, means a child, other than a child who is 18 years of age and is a person with disabilities, who resides in the parent’s place of residence for more than 50 per cent of each month and relies on that parent for the necessities of life.

In relation to a dependent child, other than for EA sec 20, 65, and Schedule A, sec 6 and EAPWD sec 17 and Schedule A, sec 6) a parent is either
- A biological mother or father;
- An adoptive mother or father;
- A person with legal custody, other than a director under the Child, Family and Community Service Act or an administrator under the Adoption Act;
- A person with legal guardianship, other than a director under the Child, Family and Community Service Act or an administrator under the Adoption Act OR
- a person who is the parent of the parenting dependent child.

Disability assistance
An amount for shelter and support provided under the Employment and Assistance for Persons with Disabilities Act.

Employment and Assistance Office

Family unit
An applicant or a recipient and his or her dependants.

HAB - Health Assistance Branch

Income assistance
An amount for shelter and support provided under the Employment and Assistance Act.

Medical practitioner
A member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia who is entitled to practice under the Health Professions Act.

Medical Services Only (MSO)

Nurse Practitioner
A member of the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia who is entitled to practice under the Health Professions Act.
