Time Limits

Overview

Effective: April 19, 2004

The BC Employment and Assistance Program generally provides income assistance, as a temporary measure, to people in need who are able to work.  Through temporary assistance the ministry provides opportunities and supports for recipients while they are seeking employment or pursuing employment-related activities.

Under the Employment and Assistance Act and Regulation, income assistance is limited to two out of five years (24 out of 60 months).  After the time limit is reached, the recipient may become ineligible or reductions may be applied.  The Employment and Assistance Regulation exempts some recipients from time limits.

Time limits do not apply to persons receiving assistance under the Employment and Assistance for Persons with Disabilities Act.
