Prime Minister Jean Chretien and Premier Gordon Campbell announce funding for the expansion of the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre on December 4, 2002. Most of the half-billion-dollar project will be paid for by the two governments on a matching, cost-shared basis, with the tourism sector contributing $90 million of the total.

2002-12-04 - Premier Campbell discusses the importance of the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre expansion to the 2010 Olympic Bid, and to the tourism industry in B.C. The centre generates more than $250 million in economic activity every year, but in 2001 Vancouver lost an estimated 50 conventions and another $146 million in economic activity because the centre is to small.
