2008-08-03 - Speaking at the opening of the 2008 North American Indigenous Games, Premier Gordon Campbell commented on the Spirit Pole, the NAIG icon representing Victory in Spirit. The opening ceremony marked the final destination of the pole. During a 13-week tour, citizens in 50 communities throughout B.C. were given the opportunity to help carve the 6.1-metre red cedar log, transforming it into a ceremonial story pole to be raised at the games' opening ceremonies.
