FIRST CIVIL FORFEITURE VEHICLES DISPLAYED
VANCOUVER – Two SUVs allegedly used to deliver drugs on Vancouver Island became the first vehicles forfeited to the Province under a civil forfeiture action and, on July 25, were put up for auction. $16 MILLION FOR FLOOD PROTECTION IN B.C.
MISSION – Communities in all regions of British Columbia – from the Kootenays to Vancouver Island, and from the Interior to the Bulkley Valley – will benefit from a variety of cost-shared flood protection initiatives announced today by the governments of Canada and British Columbia.

ILLEGAL FIREARMS, FLEEING FUGITIVES FOCUS AT MEETING
QUEBEC CITY – British Columbia will pursue greater collaboration with Canadian law enforcement partners – particularly on illegal firearms, gang violence and organized crime – and a new law targeting fugitives who flee warrants, at a federal/provincial/territorial justice meeting.

CRIME RATE IN B.C. DROPS TO LOWEST IN 30 YEARS
VICTORIA – Crime reported to police is down in B.C. for the third year in a row. The latest report from the Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics shows declines in violent crime, homicides and property crime for an overall decrease of eight per cent from 2006 to 2007.

NEW LOWER MAINLAND REMAND FACILITY PROPOSED
BURNABY – The Province intends to replace the former youth detention centre on Willingdon Avenue with a secure, state-of-the-art remand facility by 2012, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General John van Dongen announced.
