| The Solicitor General presented awards to a special group of police officers to acknowledge not only their long service of twenty and thirty years committed to public safety, but also their record of exemplary performance in pursuing and maintaining the highest standards possible. | Solicitor General John Les introduced members of the Translink’s new police unit, the first of its kind in Canada. The Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority Police Service’s 70 officers have full authority to enforce drug laws, execute outstanding warrants and arrest individuals who commit crimes outside a SkyTrain station. | On November 28, 2005, Solicitor General John Les and Community Services Minister Ida Chong signed an agreement between the Province and UBCM, the provincial organization of municipal governments, to release $2 million to support community-based programs fighting crystal meth. This is the first phase of the $7 million meth plan announced by the Premier in September. [news release]

| On November 25, 2005, Solicitor General John Les, Minister of State for Child Care Linda Reid and Skip Bassford, President University College of the Fraser Valley (UCFV) were proud to officially open the new B.C. Centre for Social Responsibility based in UCFV. "The center will enhance public safety across the province," said Solicitor General Les, "by helping us figure out ways to deal with some pretty tough issues such as the abuse of alcohol, gambling and Internet addictions." | Crime Prevention Week 2005, running November 1 to 7, was officially launched in B.C. by Solicitor General John Les. This is a national celebration held each year to raise awareness of crime prevention strategies and encourage citizens to get involved in community safety efforts.
