Voting in the Referendum
The referendum on electoral reform will take place on May 12, 2009.
The referendum is a province-wide vote on whether to retain the current First-Past-the-Post electoral system or change to the BC-STV electoral system proposed by the Citizens' Assembly on Electoral Reform.
Referendum voting will take place at the same time and in the same locations as the provincial general election, and will be administered by Elections BC, the independent office of the Legislature responsible for provincial elections and referenda.
The referendum question is:

For BC-STV to be adopted, it must receive:
- At least 60% of the total votes province-wide, and
- More than 50% of the votes in at least 51 of the province's 85 electoral districts (that is, in at least 60% of the 85 districts).
Both of these thresholds must be met in order for the result to be considered binding on the government. If BC-STV is approved, it would be put in place for the next scheduled provincial general election in May 2013.
