The funding will go towards a new Community Resource Centre and will contribute to a greener, healthier, more sustainable community. Minister Rick Thorpe announces $86,000 in provincial funding for the first B.C. Spirit Square in Revelstoke on July 11, 2007, and unveils the new Spirit Square sign with Revelstoke Mayor Mark McKee in Grizzly Plaza. The City of Revelstoke is partnering with the province to expand Grizzly Plaza and create a legacy of British Columbia's 150th anniversary in 2008. This is the first announcement of the $20 million B.C. Spirit Square program, which is one of the four Green Cities initiatives announced by Premier Gordon Campbell at the 2006 Union of BC Municipalities convention. The grade 10 students are part of a Junior Achievement of British Columbia class called the Economics of Staying in School, where they learn financial planning, budgeting and goal-setting for the future.
