Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre expansion

The Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre (VCEC) expansion project created more than 6,000 person-years of employment during construction. When fully operational, it generates more than 4,500 direct and indirect full-time jobs. The expansion triples the capacity of the existing facility of pre-function, meeting, exhibition and ballroom space. The expansion enables the VCEC to host multiple, simultaneous events, as well as large single events upwards of 10,000 delegates. The expanded VCEC has a living roof equivalent to the size of 15 hockey rinks, with more than 400,000 indigenous plants and grasses from 19 northwest species, a bee colony, and restored marine habitat underneath the building.

BC Place Stadium is an integral part of Vancouver that generates nearly $60 million in economic activity per year.  As a result, the province announced a $365 million renovation of BC Place, set for completion in 2011, that will: revitalize the interior through improved seating and concessions, improve access for the disabled, improve building operations and efficiency which will reduce energy consumption by 25 per cent, and replace the existing air supported roof with a new retractable roof.

The Province and Tourism British Columbia has invested in five provincial Gateway Visitor Centres: Peace Arch Border Crossing, Vancouver International Airport (domestic and international), Mt. Robson Provincial Park, Osoyoos and Golden. Gateway Visitor Centres play a crucial role for the tourism industry by being the first introduction to the wide range of tourism and cultural experiences that B.C. has to offer guests. The centres offer highly-trained, professional counsellors, state-of-the-art technology reservation and ticketing services, retail opportunities, including Super, Natural British Columbia products, currency exchange, food and beverage, and rest room facilities.
