NEW FUNDING FOR AMATEUR SPORTS - FEB. 2, 2006
Tourism, Sport and the Arts Minister Olga Ilich announces more than $20 million in new funding for amateur sport in B.C. that will flow from SportsFunder, a new suite of lottery games from BC Lottery Corporation.
The funding will go to help overcome financial obstacles to participation in sports faced by many children and youth, to fund travel to events for athletes from remote parts of the province, to improve coaching and to support elite athletes while they train.
