COURTENAY - Colin Hansen, Minister of Economic Development and Minister Stan Hagen, MLA for Comox Valley and Minister of Children and Family Development announced the Olympic Paralympic Live Sites funding for Vancouver Island Mountain Sports Society, December 16, 2005. The society will receive $330,000 to help with the first phase of establishing a regional centre of excellence for mountain sports at Mount Washington. This project will include construction of an additional three kilometers of competition trails, expansion of the Nordic Stadium, creation of a trailhead and boardwalk and the completion of a biathlon range.
COURTENAY - Courtenay is one of nine British Columbia communities to benefit from the $1.1 million Olympic Paralympic Live Sites funding. The $20-million Olympic Paralympic Live Sites program was announced in November 2004, and provides up to $330,000 in funding for projects with budgets under $1 million, in communities outside of Greater Vancouver and the Whistler-Squamish corridor. Additional B.C. communities benefiting from the recent announcement are Golden, Princeton, Keremeos, Quesnel, Taylor, Kaslo, Chilliwack, and Union Bay.
