COURTENAY - Colin Hansen, Minister of Economic Development and Minister Stan Hagen, MLA for Comox Valley and Minister of Children and Family Development announced the Olympic Paralympic Live Sites funding for Vancouver Island Mountain Sports Society, December 16, 2005. The society will receive $330,000 to help with the first phase of establishing a regional centre of excellence for mountain sports at Mount Washington. This project will include construction of an additional three kilometers of competition trails, expansion of the Nordic Stadium, creation of a trailhead and boardwalk and the completion of a biathlon range.

In April, 2005, the Province announced an investment of $20 million to help SFU continue its tradition of athletic excellence with the construction of a new athletic centre and stadium.

Minister for Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation, Tom Christensen, and Economic Development Minister, Colin Hansen join Aaron Nelson-Moody at the unveiling ceremony.

VANCOUVER - Minister Colin Hansen spoke at the official opening of the Nat Bailey Stadium Park October 28, 2005. In 2002, the Federal and Provincial governments announced that the Millennium Sport Facility Society would receive $1.7 million from the Canada-B.C. Infrastructure Program (CBCIP), to build the 44,000 square-foot facility that would house a community multi-purpose room, new gymnastic training centre for both Olympic and recreational athletes as well as an international standard indoor lawn bowling facility. In March 2005, $400,000 for the second phase of the project was provided from the Province's Community Development Initiative.

Bell CEO, Steve Lake, is featured with Minister Colin Hansen in front of the information and interactive exhibit that is traveling to communities across British Columbia to capture and inspire citizens to learn more about developing legacies up to and beyond the 2010 Olympics.

COWICHAN - Minister Colin Hansen officially opened the Cowichan Sportsplex's new artifical field at the John Ferreira Memorial Field Hockey Tournament September 24, 2005. The project was funded under the Canada-B.C. Infrastructure Program to build the all-weather artificial field hockey pitch and lacross box, and will be the only field of its kind in all of Canada.

SAANICH - Minister Colin Hansen tries out the new Kinesis wall system during the September 19, 2005, official opening of the Saanich Commonwealth Place Recreation Complex expansion. The system, only the second of its kind in Western Canada, is ideal for strength training and rehabilitation. The equipment is part of an expanded fitness centre and teen activity lounge, funded under the Canada/B.C. Infrastructure Program.
