RIONDEL - Emergency services in Riondel are benefiting from the $20,000 Community Networking Infrastructure Grant (CNIG), announced August 2, 2006. The grant, funded through Network BC, will bring high speed internet to the community and assist volunteer firefighters in updating their training and facilitate communications during provincial emergencies. Network BC and TELUS signed an agreement in March 2005 that will see 119 communities receive broadband access points by the end of 2006. RIONDEL - Economic Development Minister Colin Hansen was in Riondel August 2, 2006, to witness the community benefits from the $20,000 Community Networking Infrastructure Grant (CNIG) they received. Through an agreement between Network BC and TELUS British Columbians are receiving access to broadband internet service and bridging the digital divide to provide access for citizens and businesses to services in their own communities and for local businesses to tap into the global economy.
