 NANAIMO - Nanaimo-Parksville MLA Ron Cantelon joins B.C. Assembly of First Nations Regional Chief Shawn Atleo and Malaspina University College President Rich Johnston at Malaspina's Centre for Shellfish Research, April 10, 2006. On behalf of Minister of Economic Development, Colin Hansen, and Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation, Tom Christensen, MLA Cantelon announced provincial funding of $2.25 million to support the First Nations Shellfish Aquaculture Training (FNSAT) program.

Assembly of First Nations Regional Chief Shawn Atleo tour the Centre for Shellfish Research, April 10, 2006. The Centre for Shellfish Research has led the development of the First Nations Shellfish Aquaculture Training (FNSAT) program, now offering 16 courses ranging from beach management to business management. The announced provincial funding of $2.25 million will train up to 500 First Nations and coastal residents to participate in the growing seafood industry over the next five years.
