Aboriginal Health
Your B.C. Government is launching new initiatives and programs in partnership with B.C.’s First Nations to improve the health of Aboriginal British Columbians.
What your B.C. Government is doing for Aboriginal Health:
- Your B.C. Government signed the historic Tripartite First Nations Health plan with Canada and the First Nations Leadership Council and committed $14 million annually.
- The Province, in partnership with the First Nations Leadership Council, released The Transformative Change Accord: First Nations Health Plan, which has set in action 29 items intended to close the gaps in health status between First Nations people and other British Columbians.
- Provided $3 million in funding and a transfer of land for the development of the Stehiyáq Healing and Wellness Village near Chilliwack.
- In the last five years, government has dedicated more than $1.5 million to Aboriginal nursing strategies, to ensure Aboriginal communities are provided the highest quality of health care. An additional $500,000 is committed for 2008/2009.
- Funded $1.4 million for the Honour Your Health Challenge supporting Aboriginal leaders to establish and lead healthy living initiatives in their communities.

- Provided $6-million for Aboriginal ActNow initiatives, a program promoting Aboriginal health.
