Community Living
Your B.C. Government is supporting adults with developmental disabilities and their families so that they can live as independently as possible.
What your B.C. Government is doing for Community Living:
- Your B.C. government created Community Living BC (CLBC) to help adults with developmental disabilities live as fully and independently as possible in their community.
- The provincial government has increased its contribution to Community Living British Columbia’s 2009/10 budget by $52.4 million, bringing the total budget to $729.8 million.
- CLBC provides a range of support services for more than 12,000 adults.
- 5,167 people are living in staffed residential or family models and also access community inclusion services. Of those, 2,434 adults are in staffed residential services, 2,733 are in home sharing or semi-independent living, and a further 6,240 people are using family support and/or community inclusion services.
- Since 2007 all CLBC residential clients receive the maximum disability assistance rate of $190 per month for personal expenses.
- Your B.C. Government has allocated $550,000 annually, matched by CLBC, for a specialized employment program for adults with developmental disabilities.
- 445 families have been helped in covering the costs of specialized equipment or home renovations needed to keep their loved ones in their own homes, through a $30-million grant from the Province for the Family Independence Fund.
- Over 93 per cent of CLBC’s $688 million in expenditures goes directly to programs and services for their clients. (CLBC Annual Report 07/08)
- The number of adults served grew by 9.7 per cent in 2007/08 compared to 4.6 per cent in 2006/07.
