April 7, 2009
“This investment in BCIT’s health sciences programs will greatly enhance our ability to help address the shortages of medical radiography, medical laboratory technology and cardiac perfusion programs in the province,” stated Kathy Kinloch, dean of the School of Health Sciences, BCIT. “We know health care is a priority for British Columbians and this support also addresses the needs of industry for environmental health education. Commitments like this play an integral role in addressing the gaps and we are proud to play our part.”
- Kathy Kinloch, dean of the School of Health Sciences, BC Institute of Technology
Nursing:
March 30, 2009
“British Columbians are fortunate their provincial government has a strong commitment to nursing education across the full range of entry and advanced-level practice,” said Dr. Sally Thorne, director of UBC’s School of Nursing. “Effective nursing education requires active co-operation between government, health authorities and educational institutions. This sustained support for high-quality nursing education across the system represents a strategic investment in the future health of all British Columbians.”

“It’s a brave thing to do because so far too many governments have been promising the impossible and I think it's just drawing attention to the public that we can’t continue to just fund health care at the expense of other important services.”
- Dr. Brian Day, president of the Canadian Medical Association, on B.C.’s enshrining in legislation the principles of the Canada Health Act and adding a sixth principle of sustainability, Globe & Mail
