Quesnel Transportation Study

The Quesnel Transportation Study was completed in 2018. It examined the Highway 97 corridor from the Barkerville Highway Junction to Basalt Road in the Quesnel area.

Study Process

Phase 1 - Existing Conditions

The study looked at existing conditions for the Highway 97 corridor through the City of Quesnel in 2015/2106.

Public Open House

April 2017

An open house was held to provide results from Phase 1 of the study and the public was invited to provide input for exploring options in Phase 2.


Phase 2 - Future Conditions

This phase generated and assessed short- medium- and long-term improvement concepts.

Public Open Houses

February 7, 2018 and February 19, 2018

Open houses were held to introduce the Quesnel Transportation Plan and collect feedback online.


Study Outcomes

The study identified projects to meet transportation needs in the area.

Highway 97/Front Street Safety Improvements (Completed October 2018)

New laning configuration:

  • One lane northbound
  • One lane southbound
  • A centre left-turn lane at controlled intersections between Moffat Bridge and River Park Road

Quesnel North-South Interconnector

A Quesnel North-South Interconnector allows commercial vehicles to bypass the downtown core. This would increase safety and reduce congestion.
