Negotiations
The Snuneymuxw First Nation entered the treaty process in December 1993, and is in Stage 4 of the six-stage process, negotiating an agreement in principle.
In April 2003, negotiators for the federal and provincial governments and Snuneymexw First Nation recommended an Agreement-in-Principle and a governance Agreement-in-Principle be approved by their respective governments, which would have concluded Stage 4 of the six-stage process. SFN did not conduct a ratification vote citing a range of community concerns and in June 2004, withdrew support for ratification.
BC has conveyed to the Snuneymuxw First Nation its commitment to negotiate a Final Agreement consistent with the agreements reached in 2003.
